What cannot be ignored in green logistics is the high cost of packaging, low utilization rate of packaging and waste of packaging in express delivery industry. A few days ago, the State Post Bureau released data: on December 12, postal enterprises and express delivery enterprises collected 243 million express packages, up 38% over the same period last year. With the surge of packages, people are worried about the environmental pressure brought by express package. However, what is worth our attention is that the progress of green express delivery in China has accelerated significantly this year. In response to the slogan of green logistics, express delivery companies have stepped up efforts to promote the greening and production of express delivery packages. According to statistics, China’s express electronic waybill accounts for 80% at present. Compared with the traditional express waybill, the amount of paper used for the electronic waybill is reduced by more than 70%, while the adhesive tape is becoming thinner and narrower, and the amount of packaging adhesive tape used for a single express is reduced by 1/3 year on year.

Green design of products is the first step of green logistics for enterprises. Therefore, at this stage, the environmental impact of products in the subsequent production, processing, sales and recycling should be fully considered, and relevant environmental protection standards should be adopted to restrict and optimize the production process to improve the environmental performance of products throughout their life cycle. The design of product packaging should also follow the relevant environmental protection standards. Packaging materials should adopt degradable and environmentally friendly materials to reduce disposable packaging and realize the reuse of packaging.

According to the “2017 China Express Green Packaging Development Status and Trend Report” released by the State Post Office, in 2016, the national express business volume reached 31.28 pieces, consuming 3.2 billion woven bags, 6.8 billion plastic bags, 3.7 billion packing boxes and 330 million rolls of adhesive tape. With the rapid development of e-commerce, the “carton crisis” is becoming more and more obvious. If the express delivery industry can reduce the use of cartons and over-packaging, the environmental protection is very considerable and obvious. From the perspective of environmental protection and society, reverse logistics, as a key link in green logistics, is an inevitable requirement to protect the environment and build a conservation-oriented society. The economic value and social value contained in it cannot be ignored. However, in our country, many enterprises believe that reverse logistics can not only not increase economic benefits to enterprises, but also increase the operating costs of enterprises. Therefore, they all take an indifferent attitude towards recycling packaging wastes and some product wastes. In fact, the environmental pollution caused by packaging materials cannot be ignored. Excessive packaging and repeated packaging commonly exist in the logistics process not only bring bad effects on the environment, but also lead to waste of resources. How to deal with and utilize packaging waste is also a realistic problem worthy of attention.

Liu jun, deputy director of the state post office, said: “this year is a year of continuous promotion of green express.” Express delivery companies have also responded to the call and are stepping up efforts to promote green and reduction of express packaging. At present, China’s leading express delivery companies are experimenting with green packaging, among which Zhongtong, Yunda and other companies have introduced green reusable canvas bags. A canvas bag can be reused for 4-6 months, and the average usage rate of a canvas bag is 100 times that of a single woven bag in the past; Cainiao Network has jointly launched 20 “green warehouses” with logistics partners and merchants. Packages from the “green warehouses” will be delivered by tape-free express boxes and 100% biodegradable express bags. JD.com has introduced recyclable rope-drawing packaging bags. Suning piloted 50,000 shared express boxes in 13 cities; For the first time this year, “double 11” of Honeybud Logistics Warehouse uses zipper cartons as commodity packaging, which not only saves at least 60% of packaging materials, but also greatly improves the packaging efficiency.

Waste recycling and reuse is an important component of green logistics and an important step to realize a recycling logistics system. It not only ensures the circulation of materials within the enterprise itself, but also makes the circulation of materials between enterprises possible and lays a solid foundation for the circulation between enterprises and society. Therefore, enterprises should attach importance to and increase efforts to establish waste recycling logistics, and fully consider the environmental protection performance and recycling performance of raw materials in the product development and design stage, so as to reduce the generation of waste on the one hand and improve the recycling of raw materials on the other.

In this regard, JD.com pioneered a new open recycling system in the industry. The newly used recycling express box named “Green Flow Box” of Jingdong Logistics can be reused after being recycled, cleaned and disinfected. This is a new move of Jingdong Logistics “Green Flow Plan” and is also another recyclable logistics package after the cold chain insulation recycling box and recycling packaging bag. Jingdong Logistics “Green Box” was officially put into use on December 7, with the first batch of 100,000 being put into use nationwide. The single use cost of “green box” is saved by more than 30% compared with carton, which can be recycled for more than 20 times under normal circumstances, and can be “recycled and rebuilt” for unlimited times after being damaged, with no pressure on the environment. This measure can reduce the use of carton by more than 100 million times a year. At the same time, more “Jingzunda” has put in customized boxes, so that everyone will not forget environmental protection when purchasing luxury goods. In addition, JD.com Logistics is the first attempt in the industry to introduce a third-party professional recycling agency to create a brand-new recycling system for logistics packaging so that green logistics can form a sustainable scale effect. It is worth mentioning that the recycling of “green box” green box has adopted a brand-new recycling system in the industry for the first time, and has also explored a reproducible solution for the recycling of packaging in the industry.

Suning has also made progress in packaging recycling. On April 18 this year, Suning officially launched 10,000 small recycling bins instead of cartons, which is called “Ticket Flow Box Operation” to find a new terminal distribution solution for e-commerce logistics. In the first phase of the solution, ticket flow boxes mainly focus on “3C category, self-lifting, door-to-door delivery and unpacking inspection machines”. Consumers take away the commodities, and in the second phase, the drifting boxes will be expanded to more commodities and recycled by using community collection points. According to the CSR report released by Suning in 2017, a total of 2 million express cartons had been recycled by the end of 2016. On December 11, Suning Logistics and Grayscale Technology jointly released version 2.0 of Shared Express Boxes, with the first batch of 50,000 to be launched in Beijing and Hangzhou and a total of 200,000 planned for 2018. The new shared express box has the advantages of low density, portability, ease of use, high surface rigidity, scratch resistance, good flexibility and not easy to crack, and can be effectively recycled for more than 60 times, and the single use price of finished products is lower than that of cartons by more than 30%. In the design of recycling system, the new shared express box realizes the whole process of warehousing, sorting, packaging, distribution and recycling online. Each box code is the unique ID card, which can realize dynamic inventory and recycling management. In addition, it also adopts an integrated production and manufacturing system, with greatly reduced intermediate cost, stable price of raw materials, 100% recycling without pollution, and no waste water and waste gas produced in the recycling process. Not only that, the sealing buckle of the shared express box is made of wheat straw fiber, which can realize natural degradation and ensure zero pollution and zero damage of the shared express box to the natural environment.

Cainiao mainly pushes the route optimization algorithm and uses big data to plan vehicle distribution instead of manual decision-making. The promotion of this algorithm of Cainiao Network can help the industry save more than 1 billion cartons and cut down more than 3 million trees in one year, which can save at least 5% more packaging consumables than manual work.

At present, perhaps only the “leaders” of TV are practicing the way of environmental protection express packaging. However, with the increasingly severe environmental protection policy in our country, the overall improvement of the national quality, and the strict control of e-commerce packaging, the traditional carton packaging with low recycling rate will eventually be replaced under the impact of new technologies and new packaging forms.
